SharePoint Foundation 2010 is very easy to install. It must be installed on a Windows 2008 Server SP2 or Windows 2008 Server R2. The machine should have at least 8MB of memory with multi-core 64-bit processors in a production environment.
The installation installs most of the software prerequisites. In most cases, you may simply download SharePoint Foundation and run. Always start the installation as administrator. Right click the installation package and select “Run as administrator”.
You must first begin by installing the prerequisites, so click the “Install software prerequisites” link.
The prerequisites installation will begin by listing all the components required for SharePoint Foundation 2010 to run. Click “Next” to proceed.
The server will probably need to be restarted after the prerequisites have been verified or installed. Click “Finish” to restart
After the server restarts, right click the SharePoint Foundation 2010 installation package once again and select “Run as administrator”. This time click the “Install SharePoint Foundation” link. If all the SharePoint components will reside on the same server then click the “Standalone” button. If components of SharePoint will be located on separate servers click the “Server Farm” button.
After SharePoint Foundation is finished installing, the “SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard” must run to setup and configure SharePoint. If the “Standalone” option was selected for the installation in the previous step, then a default site collection and web site will be created.
If the configuration wizard is successful, a new SharePoint web site is created and displayed.
