Hangouts is Google’s take on chat rooms,Catch up with the whole family, whether you are on your Computer, Phone or Tablet device. Now a days, video chat has become so much popular among every people. Many people use Skype for video calling, becouse they do not know more about google’s Hangouts.I think ,it is more cooler than Skype. In this article, I will focus on what it is that makes Hangouts so great and definitely cooler than Skype.
Here are some reasons why I believe that Hangouts is likely to eat a big chunk of Skype’s video calling minutes.Let’s see how –
- Free Video Chat With Up To 10 Participants –
On Hangouts, you can invite up to 9 friends into a video chat with you and it is free. On the other hand, Skype allows free one-on-one video chats. If you want to invite a third person, you have to upgrade to Skype Premium or make do with audio only.In Hangouts, Google+ users can have multi-way video chats with up to 10 people. On Skype, however, multi-way video conferencing is a premium feature and one of their biggest bets when it comes to monetizing their enormous user-base of 600 million registered accounts, out of which only 6% have made a credit deposit. When Google+ opens to everyone, starts gaining tractions amongst average users and people start building their social graphs, I will be surprised if Skype’s monthly average of 300 million minutes of video calls starts to drop sharply.
Skype is free for one-on-one chats, and we love that. But even after I upgraded to the paid Skype Premium level , it still didn not work. In fact it was worse. I tried it several times with various friends, willing it to work. We all had good Broadband connections, the latest version of Skype and Webcams. But while the audio feeds were fine, the video dropped out completely, leaving us with nothing but a static photo of the others, or worse, a “frozen moment” which inevitably portrays you with crazed eyes and mouth agape. Lovely. Officially, they say you can have up to 10 simultaneous video feeds, but they recommend a max of 4.
2. A More Intuitive Interface –
Google Hangouts has a more intuitive interface than Skype. Once you have managed to join in Hangouts, things are straightforward and simple without omitting fun features and great details.Let us look at sharing your screen as an example, an option available both in Skype and Google Hangouts. In Skype, you must be in a video call to be able to share your screen. Sounds obvious, right? Well, in Hangouts you can create a chat room to prepare and test the screen before anyone else joins. That is an advantage in my opinion.
To share your screen in Hangouts, you click the Screenshare button, which opens a window showing all windows you can share. You select what you want to share and click Share selected window button. Now try to do this in Skype. While technically, Skype can do the same things with only elusive differences, the key is that Google managed to design a straightforward and intuitive process.
3. Integrated Apps –
Hangouts offers a selection of optional apps, for example YouTube, Google Docs, and SlideShare. These apps enable you to collaborate on a Google Document, use Cacoo to co-create diagrams with your team, watch a YouTube video with your best friends away from home, and play games, all while chatting and video chatting at the same time.In comparison, Skype, with the only added bonus that you can send a file, suddenly seems very one dimensional.
4. Hangouts On Air –
When you set up your Hangout, you can select the option Hangouts On Air. Subsequently, your Hangout will be broadcast live on your Google+ stream and on your YouTube channel. Apart from being streamed live, the Hangout also gets automatically saved to your YouTube account. Unfortunately, you cannot broadcast and save your Hangouts privately.I think, these type of facilities are not available in Skype.
5. Minimal Setup & Maintenance Requirements –
To create a G+ account, you need to have or create a gmail account. But no-one says you have to use it. You also need to download a browser plugin, but that is way easier than downloading new software like Skype. It auto-installs in your default browser. The beauty of it is that the software is entirely cloud-based on Google’s servers, so they do the lion’s share of the work. Skype on the other hand is a separate download that provides no additional services and requires regular updates, in addition to an account that you can’t use for much else. With your Google account you can use a wide selection of Google services. Moreover, you can use it as a social network login option on other websites.
Thus,we see all the good features of Hangouts, and now,you have to conclude that ,”which one is better:Skype or Hangouts.Choices is yours…….
