Datawind,Maker of low cost Aakash Tablet, said that it has started supplying the new version of the Tablet to IIT, Bombay and it is likely to be launched in October. “Supplies are on to IIT Bombay, In the next few weeks, it should be launched. HRD Minister (Kapil Sibal) and Datawind CEO (Sunit Singh Tuli) have said “We do not have the exact date, but we want to launch on the anniversary date which is October 5“. The Aakash 2 is supposed to have better specifications and has the same price of the original Aakash. Unfortunately, since May, we have only heard that the device would be ‘launched soon’. DataWind recently said that it had begun supply to IIT and it expects the Aakash 2 will be launched by October. Ironically, the device is expected to be unveiled on October 5, exactly one year after Kapil Sibal unveiled the original Aakash.
There are a great deal of budget Tablets being released in the Indian market, such as the Lava E-Tab Z7H and the Karbonn Smart Tab 2. But none are more budget-friendly, yet not lacking in features, as the Aakash 2 Tablet. The cheapest Tablet in the world which created a revolution in the year 2011, especially among Indian students, is now all set to step into the upgraded version this year. The Aakash Tablet has now upgraded to the next version, which will be called the Aakash 2 Tablet. Last year, this Aakash Tablet was focused mainly for Indian students at a budget price and was also available for common users online at a price of Rs 3,499 per Tablet.
There was mixed feedback received for the Aakash 1 Tablet in terms of its poor battery life and low speed. This forced the decision to come up with an upgraded version, and it is all set to release later this year, which was confirmed by the Union MHRD Minister Mr Kapil Sibal. The upgraded version is designed to perform twice as fast as its former release. SIM card support, GPRS, 3G dongle recognition, 3G connectivity and video chat option are some of the notable features added in the upgraded version. Data plans are also available at a cheaper rate restricted up to a particular usage limit.A Lot more key features are included in the new version and IIT Mumbai takes the crown this year for testing the Tablets sent by Datawind for a performance review.
