Shopping for any new bit of technology can be overwhelming, especially if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. Headphones are no exception. With so many types, there is something out there for everyone. Here are 5 things to think about when shopping for your perfect headphones

Type

There are so many types of headphones on the market: in-ear headphones are ideal for commuting, full-sized are more suitable for professional work, whilst wireless are perfect for walking around the house. Have a think about when and where you’ll be using your headphones to decide what type is best for you.

Demand quality

The market is flooded with a variety of high quality audio accessories, from home cinema systems to wireless speakers. But when buying headphones don’t just look for audio quality, look at the physical quality. Are these well made? Will they cope with your busy lifestyle?

Try before you buy

Don’t be taken in by all the marketing talk that accompanies headphone adverts. Try before you buy! Select a few familiar songs from different genres to see how they perform with each one. Personally I would try out 3 songs: a piece of classical music; something loud with a heavy bass; and pure vocals, perhaps an audio book. If it reveals a part of the music you’ve never heard before it’s usually a good indicator.

Style over substance?

Apparently, a huge number of fake headphones are making their way into the world market. Desirable top-end brands, as endorsed by celebrities like Lady Gaga, are being copied and sold at a fraction of the price. Whilst they may look like the real-deal, counterfeit earphones often lack the high-quality audio which consumers demand.

Price

At the end of the day choosing your perfect headphones is limited by your budget. However, if you are a music lover and you plan on using your headphones frequently, then it’s worth investing in high quality audio to get the very best out of your music.
